Raising the Next Generation’s Leaders
Umoya is a Non-Profit Organisation which focuses on engaging with communities in Africa through sport, education and better facilities. Umoya further focuses on mentorship, preparing young men and women for adult life and to prepare them for what awaits them in the world out there.
Umoya Mountain Bike Academy (MTB), was established in 2014, and since then has gone from strength to strength, giving individuals from rural communities the opportunity to excel in this sport.
Umoya’s sport programs are aimed at young people trapped in hopelessness and poverty, especially vulnerable youth in rural township communities. These programs serve as a tool to engage with communities and transform individual lives. The sport programs focus on elite skills, forging champions through state-of-the-art coaching programmes and the acquisition of an exemplary work ethic. A sense of self-worth and achievement naturally follows!
We have partnered with MJ Mohlahli Secondary School in Ficksburg to establish a Mountain Bike Programme (MTB) and have achieved amazing results over the last three years.
- Top 4 school/team in the Spur XCO Freestate leg 2015 (Boys)
- Riders achieving merit awards from Freestate Cycling 2015
- More recently one of our rider won the 40km Cherry Festival race(Overall)
- Also our 1st female rider in our program won the 15km Cherry Festival race (Female Category).
Through popular demand Umoya plans to double its MTB Programme intake in 2017. This means more bikes, more equipment, volunteers…
We are so positive about the MTB Programme and the leaders it has developed over the last three years. Please pledge your support to help us raise R120,000.00 to develop the next generation leaders in South Africa and know that your contribution leaves a lasting legacy.
