The function of The Recovery Foundation is to help people that are on the bottom end of society, the guys on the streets. They don't have jobs, homes etc. Most of them, if not all of them, have some sort of drug dependency issue. What we do is take those type of individuals off the streets, into a rehab center to get clean then we put them into long term reintegration programs (such as halfway houses etc) and work on skills development, family reintegration services, basic coping skills, healthy living (eating healthy, physical activity usually through football and cycling). We are in the process of opening a drop in center in Hillbrow (Working with the department of health and department of social development to get it ready and launched by early 2018) and a detox unit. We have started small and slowly we are gaining momentum. We also use various events during the year to raise awareness and funds such as the 94.7 cycle challenge, Cape Town Cycle Tour, The Recovery Film Festival, and a 5 a side football tournament in which showcases a healthy lifestyle and that it is possible to have fun in recovery.
