REACH was founded in 2005 as a response to a 2-year pilot research project called Sexual Harassment at Work on Farms in the Overberg/Western Cape Region conducted by the former Director of REACH which exposed the high prevalence of sexual harassment, sexual violence, domestic violence, alcohol and drug abuse and HIV/AIDS in the Southern Western Cape’s farming rural communities, while also exposing the lack of programs and absence of support services to address and assist those whose lives are affected by these social problems. In 2006, REACH conducted a follow-up study on these same issues revealing more dire circumstances facing farm workers and rural farming communities. The research highlighted the significant need to address and provide members with the resources to deal with these issues and was the guiding force to the development of REACH's multi-pronged strategy.
REACH believes that the key to effectively and efficiently address these issues is to broach it within a holistic framework. REACH has 6 main project objectives:
• To provide training and awareness raising on sexual harassment and violence against women (VAW) including other interlinking factors
• To establish & provide counselling support services
• To establish & provide legal support services
• To research contributing factors to sexual harassment and VAW
• To develop sexual harassment and VAW campaigns
• To promote changes of restrictive policies affecting REACH believes that the key to effectively and efficiently address these issues is to broach it within a holistic framework. REACH has 6 main project objectives:

REACH has made great strides and affected positive changes since inception in our mission to sensitize rural farming communities and other relevant stakeholders on the issues of sexual harassment and sexual violence through the implementation of programmes that encourage ethical, social, personal awareness and development. Our vision is that of an empowered community that is socially aware, independent, responsible, self-caring and free of
sexual harassment and sexual violence.
