Rape Crisis Centre has been operating in the Port Elizabeth Area since 1992.
Our vision is to develop a multi-sectoral approach towards the elimination of all forms of gender violence, by working with various stakeholders and the provision of assistance on a holisic basis to victims of gender violence and their families.
Rape Crisis Centre also aims to be be a centre which provides holistic gender sensitive assistance, prevention and empowerment in all forms of sexual violence.
Rape Crisis Centre has a board that is repsonsible for the over-all policy and decision making. The board includes representatives from the medical, legal, psychological and community sector. It is balanced with regards to gender and community proportions and also has staff representation.
We serve both the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Area and, where necessary, in semi-rural areas. We also cover areas New brighton, Kwazakhele, Zwide, Motherwell, Uitenhage and semi-surrounding rural areas such as Hankey, Klipplaat, Humansdorp and Patensie.
Rape Crisis Centre provides advice and assistance in the following categories:
* Counselling, Psychological and Para-legal Assistance
* Medical assistance
* Referrals to other organizations
* Information dissemination
* Education
* Research and Monitoring at Courts
* Court Preparation
* Life skills training (education and Prevention) at schools
* Lobbying and Advocacy around issues of sexual violence.
