The Nokwe Creative Development Foundation (NCDF) was founded in 1976 by musician, actress, and teacher Tu Nokwe, of the renowned Nokwe family. In the wake of the traumatic Soweto uprisings, this remarkable artist saw the need to galvanize the self-esteem of young people and motivate them through performing arts.
The first unit of development which was established under the foundation was Amajika Youth and Children Arts. For the last 34 years, Amajika has contributed ongoingly to the cadre of successful and budding artists in our country.
Today NCDF continues to address human development, illiteracy, poverty and other related issues afflicting our society using the medium of performing arts. The NCDF is strategically positioned to work with artists, youth and communities in the areas of performing arts, cultural heritage preservation, moral regeneration, promotion of indigenous musical instruments, skills development, self management, leadership and entrepreneurship.
All the projects of the foundation have been restructured in order to be aligned with statutory bodies and standards set out by the National Qualifications Framework, South African Qualifications Framework and MAPPPSETA.
The NCDF is headquartered at the Bassline in Johannesburg, the hub of musical activity in the city and arguably the country. From this base, the NCDF implements its projects throughout all nine provinces of South Africa with coverage of both the rural expanse and urban landscapes.
