Since 1894, the Sisters of Nazareth have been caring for Johannesburg's elderly citizens and children. With the Old Age Home and the Children's Home the Sisters now have a clinic for AIDS and TB patients and a Hospice for twenty-two patients. We depend solely on the generosity of the public to keep things going.
Nazareth House is owned and run by the Sisters of Nazareth, a Catholic religious order of nuns which was founded in England in 1857 and came to Johannesburg in 1894. We strive to uphold the Core Values of our foundress, Victoire Larmenier, in all that we do here at Nazareth House. We have a board of management and employ a team of full-time managers to care for the medical, financial and technical well-being of the home.
The Sisters and staff care for 30 HIV+ orphans, 22 adult, terminally ill Aids patients, 100 frail aged and 10 mentally challenged women. Most of the residents of Nazareth House can no longer adequately care for themselves or be maintained by the community.
We also run a clinic for over three thousand patients from the local community.
