Mothusimpilo is a community intervention program based in Merafong local municipality. The program was started in 1998 through funding from UK- Department for International Development (DFID). The organization uses peer education as a strategic tool to impact on the sexual behaviour of target groups, also providing effective STI/HIV/TB and GBV prevention, targeting risky behaviours that expose individuals to HIV transmission. The program also identifies the need to address collective, social and institutional factors such as sexual norms, gender inequality, and HIV related stigma, that will otherwise continue to fuel the epidemic. Mothusimpilo creates an alignment between programme planning, local community planning and national strategic planning.
