KMA was formed in February 2007 and is constituted as an NPO with a committee of members from all communities of Hout Bay.
Every day in South Africa, children who do not participate in an after-school activity are exposed to risk, temptation and abuse of all kinds. The youth in the historically disadvantaged and troubled communities of Hout Bay are the poorest of the poor and exposed to traumatic circumstances on a daily basis.
Music is healing and provides therapeutic respite for these youth in their otherwise chaotic world.
At Kronendal Music Academy we believe that music is an effective tool which can be used to aid a child's personal and social development. Based in Hout Bay (Cape Town, South Africa) we serve impoverished youth (from age 7) from the Imizamo Yethu informal settlement and Hangberg fishing village.
On a practical level we offer a safe environment where children are welcomed every day of the week, and given safe transport from their school and back to their home at the end of the day, a nourishing meal, homework assistance and access to a social worker.
We are mindful that not all of our children will go on to study music or follow a career in music; for many, music will remain a hobby. Whilst we are a fully-fledged, professional music school with some of the finest teachers in Cape Town, we are also philanthropists with a sincere commitment to enabling children to live a better life.
Through structure provided by music lessons, the task of mastering an instrument and opportunities to perform on stage, we help each child to build discipline and confidence as they journey at their own pace.
A choice of instruments, participation in ensembles and exposure to indigenous African Instrument training offers all our pupils the choice of continuing music as a subject in high school as well as preparation for tertiary music education.
Our programme has won numerous awards, our teachers are some of the best in Cape Town and we offer tuition in an exciting range of 23 instruments.
KMA is a safe place filled with music, laughter and encouragement. A place which brings hope to their otherwise hopeless circumstances.
