John Peattie House, established in 1965, is registered to accommodate 50 residents on a full time (24 hours a day) or day care basis. There are a total of 53 staff employed, some of whom are accommodated at the Home. Some residents attend a special school and workshop in the area. A stimulation program for residents takes place every morning. Afternoons and weekend activities include swimming, walks and frequent outings.
A Management Committee has the task of administering the home and ensuring its continued viability. As with all homes, John Peattie House requires ongoing maintenance and renovations. A steady flow of donations/additional sources of revenue are required to ensure the long term viability of the institution.
Parents/Guardians are required to pay a monthly fee which is reviewed annually. The home receives a subsidy from the State and those residents who qualify receive a disability pension which is paid directly to the home.
We pride ourselves in calling John Peattie House a “home for life”. We try and make it a homely environment. We also have dogs and cats on the premises, which the residents are encouraged to look after as it is very therapeutic.
