Horizon House is a residential and sheltered-employment centre specialising in the holistic care of people with a primary intellectual disability. Established in 1974, the centre is located in Stellenbosch, Western Cape. The centre can house and care for 138 people. We provide employment to the residents as well as to 35 day workers. The beneficiaries need caring, growth, self-esteem, socialising and relationships. Like all of us, they too, have dreams but, being intellectually disabled, they are vulnerable and require a safe environment in which they can come into their own. Holistic and client-centered service is provided by instructors, medical staff and social workers. We also take care of their recreational and spiritual needs as well as personal development. Horizon House is a non-profit company responsible for its own funding. To run a financially sustainable centre, we must supplement our income with donations, sales, fundraising, events and bequests.
