The Gvb Conservancy Trust was established in 1988, as a non-profit trust and registered public benefit organization. In 2014, the conservancy began implementing their first large project to clear alien vegetation across the conservancy. The project has made a significant difference in improving rural livelihoods. The project creates over 50 fulltime jobs each year. This benefits 120 households. In 2015, the conservancy received a gold award from Conservation at Work for the best managed Conservancy in the Eastern region. The Conservancy has successfully cleared 56km of river within the conservancy that was invaded with alien vegetation and has secured a further three years of funding to keep these sections clear as natural vegetation is re-established
