The Flower Foundation Pretoria, Homes for the Aged is a non-profit organisation that provide accommodation to the aged at well below market related rentals. We also provide the elderly with a measure of social care as well as subsidized transport to and from hospitals and shopping centers. The Flower Foundation has the capacity to house 265 elderly persons in its four facilities situated in Arcadia, Groenkloof and Danville.
No funding is received from Government and we rely on fundraising and donations to subsidize rentals and to maintain the buildings. Over the past few years we have not been in a financial position to effect any major renovations to our ageing buildings.
We would like to take this opportunity to highlight just one of the challenges that we face.
In terms of our constitution our residents must be self-supporting. A significant problem arises when the elderly is no longer able to use an ordinary bath due to restricted ability to move. A solution to this problem is to replace the existing bath with a shower. At an approximate cost of R20 000, neither the Flower Foundation nor the resident have the means to pay for such a conversion. This inevitably leads to the elderly resident having to find other accommodation, at much higher cost, which they are not able to afford.
Your kind consideration to a donation, whether for general use or for a specific purpose, is much appreciated.
