This serves to confirm that the Cape Town Regional Chamber of Commerce and Industry is an Association not for gain, established by an Act of Parliament.
The relevant Act is the Cape Town Chamber of Commerce Act of 1891 (18 August,1891). The Act states, inter alia, that “The association hereby incorporated by the name of the Cape Town Chamber of Commerce shall have perpetual succession and common seal.”
The Chamber’s status as a non profit organisation is recognised by Government in section 10(1)d(ii) of the Income Tax Act, which exempts “chamber of commerce or industries (or an association of such chambers)” from paying income tax.
