Amathunzi Arts & Development Centre is a community-based organization located in Khayelitsha (Lingelethu District) in the Western Cape (NPO No. 252-197). It consists of 80 per cent of females in the leadership positions and 20 per cent of males as supporting staff. The organization was established in June 2020 amid Covid19 pandemic by a concerned citizen who came to the realization that Khayelitsha youth, elderly people, people with disabilities, teens, and children are victims of gender-based violence, substance abuse, human trafficking, drugs, HIV/Aids and gangsterism. And arts is amongst the effective tools to address all of the above-mentioned social issues. Our vision is to be an organization that seeks to transfer skills and disperse information to the less privileged communities. By means of capacitating and empowering them through Education, Awareness and partnering with other Stakeholders with a similar vision.
Amathunzi Arts & Development Centre strives to promote excellence in the following fields of Jazz & African Music and Dance, Development & Theatre/Applied Drama performance. AADC also aims to create job opportunities for mostly women, youth and people with disabilities. By creating spaces and opportunities for young innovative artists to explore their creativity. AADC is to asses and address in partnership with neighbouring communities such as Mitchells Plain, Mfuleni etc the relevant information, needs and trends concerning youth, elderly people, people with disabilities, teens and children in order to promote the implementation of skills development training programs.
